Bargain of the day-- Carriellen, Sam and I went down to the Woolly Lamb this morning. It was raining, so they didn't have their outdoor "40% off Courtyard Sale"... but instead, we found an indoor "40% Off Rainy Day Sale". Among other things, all Colinette yarns were 40% off... I got an Ab-Fab Throw Kit for $114!!! They had about 5 of them in stock- I should have bought them all, right? Hmm... just another excuse to go back :)

Another pair of socks completed.

Tomorrow, these will be winging their way across the country to some lucky BOOB with feet slightly larger than my own.

My sock needles are resting now, but as soon as I finish this, I'm headed back downstairs to start another pair.

What's more boring than watching someone blog about knitting a sock?

Watching someone blog about knitting the other sock!

Yes, the second sock continues... it's almost done. I have plans for many more socks that I want to start. I did buy another set of needles so I can have two socks going at a time... but for now, I plug along on these.

My M-I-L was down from Toronto for the weekend-- it was fun to see her, and Sam had a great time with his "nonny" (we're aiming for Granny, but "nonny" is what comes out) He also calls her "daddysmommy" which is very cute.

She got in Friday afternoon, we had Indian dinner... Saturday morning, she babysat along with my dad. Sam was very confused when "mommysdaddy" and "daddysmommy" were in the same room. We had first Seder at my grandmother's Saturday night, did some outlet shopping Sunday morning (I bought some very small pants hee hee) and then Sunday evening, she went home. We'll get to see her again in July, when we go up to Toronto.

And in work news, our new office manager Carl started today.

I am really excited to have him at the office-- Ultimately, he will take over a lot of the day-to-day management and administrative stuff that I was doing, leaving me more time for knitting... I mean, er, seeing patients and growing our practice. It is interesting-- already, one of the frame salesmen in the office assumed that the tie-clad man in the office was the doctor, and I was just one of "the girls"... which is fine by me. We'll just buy less from his company :)

Presenting... The Fir Cone Lace Sweater!

What's next on the "things to knit for myself" list? Hmmm....

We had the best day today! Sue, Carriellen & I have been planning a trip back to the Woolly Lamb ever since we walked out the door last time we were there. Sue got a 20% off coupon from them for her birthday... and I had gotten her a gift certificate as a present-- so we were set to shop!

Well... we got to the store, and found a sign saying "Yarn Sale-- Cash & Carry, in the Courtyard"... so we headed around back, and found BINS and BINS and BINS of awesome incredible yarn... ALL 40% OFF! It was pretty awesome-- most times a store will advertise a yarn sale, and the really good clearance stuff will be all novelty, or all icky colors, or odd balls. This was totally different. They had everything out there-- from 100% acrylic Peter Pan stuff... to cashmere, and cashmere/silk blends... to alpaca... to 100% wool... to EVERYTHING... and plenty of skeins in the same dye lot...

We went a bit nuts. Here we are showing off just a few of our purchases. We literally had 7 full shopping bags of yarn.

I bought a bunch of Dale Falk to make a sweater for Sam for next winter, and 2 skeins of Lobster Pot Cashmere, just because it was 40% off... and an alpaca/wool blend to make a sweater for myself... some brown wool that will be incredible felted, and some sock yarn (YES, it's for you jw, so start working on those stitch markers). I should have bought more. But, the good news is that this sale goes on every Saturday through the end of May! And, the owner said that there is new stuff out each week-- it's not just dwindling stock. So, I guess we'll just have to go back.

I have been working on the fir cone lace sweater-- all the pieces are done, and half of it is seamed.

I'm planning to sew up the rest tonight, and can't wait to start something new!

Something was definitely wrong with the cable. I'm still not sure what. But I dropped the cable down to below where the problem was (I took a picture in case you don't believe me)

... and then worked it back up, and it looked much better.

Tonight, I finished the sweater. It is very pretty in natural light. Unfortunately, I finished it around 9:00 p.m. and there isn't any natural light here.

But that is not nearly the most exciting news in our house tonight. This is:

Yep, Sam peed in the potty! We just got the potty a few days ago-- it's way early for this, but we figured we'd set it up and let him get used to it. Tonight, he ran over to the toilet... so we asked him if he wanted to sit on his potty. He said "Yeah" (in his cute way)... so he sat on the potty, and we asked if he wanted to take his pants off... and he did... and sat... and when he got up... voila! Pee!

I completed the front of what I'm calling "The Sunshine Sweater."

I sewed the shoulder seams, and will do the neck next, just to make sure it's going to be large enough, before I work on the sleeves. I knew the cable would narrow the width a little... but didn't realize it was scrunching the height too... and I was really into Amazing Race, so before I knew it, I had missed the point where I should have started the neck shaping. I tinked back a few rows... not sure if it was enough. I will find out soon though.

I have great buttons that match this yarn perfectly... but I don't think there's anywhere on this sweater to put buttons! I was planning to do one of those necklines where there are a few buttons on one shoulder-- you see it on baby stuff sometimes to make it easy to get over the baby's head-- but I couldn't figure out how.

I might just have to buy more of the same yarn and make something else :)

Hey-- what's up with that cable... like 3 twists from the top? Uh oh... is that just a weird shadow in the picture? Gotta go check that out.

Sam took a 2 and a half hour nap in the car yesterday, so I had time to finish his little socks. He wore them today. For the record, they're not mismatched, they're whimsical!

He was still asleep when I finished... luckily I found some random yarn and needles in the trunk of the car (Stephanie lives in a wool house... I drive a wool car!) so I worked on some little hats. They are still in the car, so no photos.

When I got home from work today, Jonathan & Sam were both napping, so I finished this:

We just need a trip back to Woolly Lamb for some cute buttons.

And I started this:

I'm kind of making up the pattern as I go-- it's baby-sized, and I'm planning one large cable up the front. I'm not sure if I like it-- I may rip it out, and re-do it at a tighter gauge. I originally swatched at 5.5 stitches to the inch... the ball band calls for 4... this is 4.5, but I think it's still a little loosey goosey. I may start the front with the cable, and see how it looks before deciding.

And just to show you how rather awesome my husband is... today I dropped a knitting needle behind the entertainment center. He not only fished out my needle, but found the bamboo DPN that was originally under Sue's stove, and then was thought to be lost for good.

I love that man.
