I haven't done any knitting the last two nights. Sam has fallen asleep on the way home from daycare... so he's been napping from 6 to 7 pm... which means he is then wide awake and ready to play... by 11:00, he's still up... so I'll lie down in bed with him to try to get him to fall asleep... and I'll fall asleep too... so no knitting :( I miss it!

Well, I think you're all old enough to learn the knitting facts of life.

You see, when a Mommy sock and a Daddy sock love each other very much, they go into the knitting basket, and make...

A baby sock! Is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen???

Okay, maybe THAT'S the cutest thing. I spent Yom Kippur not eating... which led to some major knitting... and this was the result! It fits him perfectly... which means I better go make the other sock right now, because in 2 weeks they'll be too small. I made up the pattern myself... based on the Basic Sock pattern from "Socks Soar On Two Circular Needles". Once I do the match to this, I'll make another pair, a little bigger.

I also finished the front to the fir cone lace sweater. I'm a little nervous about starting the sleeves. It's going to require a bit of brain energy, which I haven't had lately... but as soon as I do, I'll figure out the pattern and start them.

Yay, knitting!

I must say, "The Apprentice" is SUCH quality programming... although I think all the girls on this season suck, and I don't like any of them.

I FINALLY mailed out my first snail mail RAOK today... yay! I have more to send... just haven't had time. Right now, I'm going to knit while Jonathan watches ER. I'm hoping to start the neck shaping on the fir cone lace sweater!

Only one more pattern repeat on the front of the Fir Cone Lace Sweater before I start the neck shaping!

I'm getting a little nervous about the wearability of this thing... the lace holes are really big, and the sweater is really small.

A finished object!

The match to Grandma's Cataract Sock is complete!

And the requisite on-foot photo...

These were made with Opal sock yarn (don't have the colorway handy), using the basic sock pattern from "Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles"

For anyone keeping track, I have 3 projects nearing completion. Bobbi Bear, Grandma's Cataract Socks, and the Fir Cone Lace Sweater (well... it's not really nearing completion, but it's progressing)... here's the front.

I think it's my goal (does setting goals defeat the entire purpose of knitting?) to finish all 3 of them before Stitches East. Maybe the Bea Ellis hat (which I haven't started yet) too. Then I won't feel the least bit guilty about buying new stuff & starting it right away. Actually, maybe I'll just finish all the sweater pieces, because I'm taking a finishing class at Stitches, so it will come out better if I wait.

Sam wanted me to include the following public service announcement:
If you're hungry, there is always something good to eat on the floor underneath your high chair.

And on a personal note... HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY to jw... my BOOBfriend, knitting buddy, and one of my 3 loyal blog readers.

Back from Vegas! The trip got much better once Jonathan & Sam started feeling well again. We saw a lot of great stuff-- I think my favorite had to be Red Rock Canyon... it was so beautiful & quiet. I wished I had something to knit!

I had lots of other knitting time though-- Sam never quite adapted to the time change, so he was going to sleep for the night around 6:00 pm... mostly, I worked on the match to Grandma's cataract sock... I'm just about ready for the toe decreases.

I worked on the fir cone lace sweater too-- will have pictures soon.

And Yay! I got an RAOK in the mail-- 3 really cute stitch markers from
Andrea. I really really love them-- MUCH cuter than the safety pins I've been using. It sounds silly, but I always wanted stitch markers... and now I have 3!

Too stressful catching up at work today. Makes it almost not worth going away. Bah!

Believe it or not, I'm blogging from Las Vegas tonight. It's been a pretty atypical vacation. The plane ride here kind of sucked. I'm not sure what was up with Sam-- either his ears hurt, or his teeth hurt... something hurt, because he screamed for about 2 hours of the 4.5 hour flight. He slept through the landing... as people filed out of the plane, they looked at the angelic-looking child, and one-by-one commented along the lines of, "Sure, now he sleeps."

He was under the weather for our entire first day here (Monday)... cranky, not eating, etc. Jonathan, too, wasn't feeling well... so we did a brief walk on the strip, and ended up hanging out in our "villa" for the rest of the day... watching The Wiggles over and over and over. Sam LOVES the Wiggles.

I will say, however, that this villa is pretty awesome. I'm on an Internet station, and can't find the link... but it's the Westgate Flamingo Bay, which I highly recommend. Our room is bigger than my house!!! It's 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room, full kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, huge jacuzzi tub... quite nice.

Yesterday, Jonathan & Sam were perking up... we saw the MGM Grand & a few other hotels... did some outlet shopping... got a nice Mexican dinner (Weight Watchers? What Weight Watchers?). Sam has not quite adjusted to the time change, so he was asleep for the night at 6:30... Jonathan & I ended up going to sleep pretty early as well.

Sam is feeling MUCH better today-- we went to Hoover Dam this morning, which was pretty amazing... Unfortunately, Jonathan is still sick (worse)... so it's 7:15 p.m. and Sam and Jonathan are both sound asleep, and I'm on my own in Vegas. There's a shuttle bus from our resort in to the strip that leaves in about a half hour... so I will hop on that.

I'm not sure it's an up-side... but I've gotten a LOT of knitting done. I started the match to "grandma's cataract surgery" sock on the plane here... I've done the whole ankle, and the heel flap, and the heel turn... getting ready to start the gusset. I was thinking "Gee, I really have to buy some sock yarn..." and then I checked www.Wendyknits.net, and followed the link to the Critter Knitters prize page, and found out I had won prize #54... 2 balls of Regia sock yarn (and needles & a charm!) YAY!

So that's my existence at the moment. Wish me luck if I end up in a casino tonight!

Jonathan's pretty funny about this project. His quote of the night: "Honey, can you put some eyes on that thing? It's kind of freaking me out!"

I am out of stuffing. I was so excited-- I had this big almost-full bag of stuffing that I was really happy to be getting rid of. Unfortunately, it is not quite enough stuffing to stuff Bobbi... so I will buy another big bag of stuffing, and use just a little bit... and then have a big almost-full bag of stuffing. Bah!

In other news... look at Sam's new skill!

Yes, kids... my son is a nose-picker. Very exciting stuff.

Why I love my husband: Reason 8,259,061

Me: Boo, look!

Jonathan: (looks perplexed, then grins weakly) Is that an outfit for someone we know?

Me: No! It's a bear!

Jonathan: (looks relieved) Oh, cute.

Unfortunately, the stuffing is in a box under my bed, and Sam is asleep in my room... so Bobbi won't be stuffed tonight. Hopefully tomorrow.
