I've been knitting a lot, relatively speaking...

I still haven't finished Tali's blanket (although after hanging out today at Ad & Amy's and seeing their 2 kids' awesome blankets, it kind of made me want to)... but I've been knitting other stuff.

On Thursday, I went to knitting group without Tali. She was missed (nothing worse than pouty knitters), but I managed to drink a latte, have a conversation, AND get some knitting done.

The pink blanket is moving along...

Then on Saturday, Carriellen & I went on a little stash enhancement expedition to The Woolly Lamb (damn you people and your stupid coupons). I showed amazing restraint... but I did pick up yarn to make sweaters for my friend Lori who is expecting twins(!) in the fall. She's in Southern California, so I didn't want anything too warm-- so I bought Cascade Sierra in turquoise and yellow.

I'm making the Child's Placket Neck Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I started it Saturday afternoon, and am ready to start the sleeves-- but need to order some needles first-- so it's on hold for now.

Are YOU smarter than a preschooler?

Two points to anyone who knows the five-letter word for caterpillar poop.

A half hour away from finishing Tali's blanket, I decided it was time to start another major project.

So many people around me are having babies (some more than others!) that I decided I definitely need to do some baby knitting.

Baby knitting! You know, quick easy little projects that you finish in a weekend... right?

Nope, not me... I started a mega-project:

It's a modified basket weave pattern, from an old Leisure Arts booklet. I'm knitting in Cotton Ease... about 8 million stitches per row.

I like having a big project though-- it's comforting to know that I'll be working on this for the next long while.

Today, though, it was way too nice out to knit. We went for a family hike along the canal. Very awesome.

Tali was hanging out and enjoying the view...

Sam engaged in his all-time favorite hobby of throwing rocks in the water.

Perfect.

Do I have a dirty mind... or is "GiantKitty69" not the best e-mail address from which to send a resume?

So we've crossed over to the dark side of behavior modification... the reward chart.

Somehow, we've avoided the whole "reward thing" thus far-- I mean, really, what do M&M's have to do with going to the potty??? We've managed to convince Sam that he should do all kinds of things just for the sake of doing them... and although we have turned him into a bit of a praise-monger, it seemed to be working...

For everything except sleep.

Sam used to be a good sleeper-- he'd go to bed by himself, and then wander down around 4 or 5 a.m. to climb into our bed until morning-- and all was well. Then about a year ago, one of his damn teachers (not you, Stacey) had to chase the kids around while pretending to be a monster... Sam had his first nightmare... and from then on, we've been sitting in his room while he falls asleep. Add that to the fact that he has gotten much bigger, and since he insists on being the "-" in the "H" in bed, there isn't much room for me & Jonathan.

Tali, on the other hand, is a very good sleeper so far. Once she started going to sleep on her own, and sleeping through the night (more on this in a second), we decided it was time to start working on Sam.

So... with my almost 4 years of pent-up-reward-chart creativity, I went to work. There are tickets, there are points, there are stars, and numbers and charts and levels and prizes. It is very excellent.

AND MAN DOES IT WORK.

It took all of ONE NIGHT, and we now have a boy who goes to bed on his own, and stays there until it's light out. (I'll post another time about the deep pain of having a boy love a paper ticket more than snuggling with me for 4 hours... but I think I'm over it)

This reward stuff is good, I tell ya.

Unfortunately, the minute I told people that Tali was sleeping through the night, she stopped doing it, and lately is waking up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 4:00 a.m.

And now that I've posted this, I'm sure Sam won't sleep either.

Feh.

It's been a little hectic. Lots of goings on at the office-- some exciting, most not so much-- but all seriously interfering with my knitting time.

Fortunately, I was invited to the Carriellen/Jay knitting oasis last night, and finished this:

It's the Baby Yoda Sweater, knitted in Sunsette... and a "matching hat" that doesn't match quite as well as I'd like, and may have to get redone.

Tali is a willing model-- but the outfit is not for her-- there are lots of people having babies around me & needing gifties.

Stay tuned-- I'm sure some winning resume snippets will be coming soon!
