Wow... have I totally been abandoning this blog, or what??? It's been WAY too busy lately.

Sam is crawling, and is getting into EVERYTHING... I can't leave him alone for a second!

Work has been a bit nuts... we had our second exam lane installed last week, and have spent part of every day since then dealing with the electric/computer/equipment issues that have cropped up. We had an Aspex/Manhattan Design Trunk Show on 4/22, which was VERY successful as far as I'm concerned (photo below)... Kiesha has been out sick, and our new part-timer Jayson has started.

In any event, I HAVE been knitting (of course)... I got the Cashmerino Aran, and promptly started on Amy's baby blanket (Hi Amy!)... I realize it is going to be difficult to post pictures, as entrelac doesn't really start to look good until you've made some significant progres... but I will take some pictures tomorrow anyway!

Socks? No progress.

Sweater? No progress.

PILE of yarn from Sue's Mom? Progress! Two little preemie hats to be donated...

Sam is still sick... maybe worse today... poor dude.

Oy... it's been crazy... let me see if I can catch up.

I brought the sweater to the yarn store for diagnosis & repair... I screwed it up enough that the woman asked me to LEAVE IT THERE so they could spend more time with it... which they did... and called me later that it was fixed. I picked it up 2 days later, and still have to finish it!

While I was there, I checked out yarns for Amy's baby blanket... the Cashmerino Super Chunky was WAY too heavy... but I decided the Cashmerino Aran would be just lovely. I had some reservation about spending $100 on a baby blanket... though it would certainly be stunning and Amy is well worth it... just knowing that it would be peed on etc, I guess... and they didn't have enough skeins of the color I wanted, so I decided to wait. I did pick up a ball of Opal sock yarn for when I finish these Koigu socks.

Well... when I got home, I decided to check Ebay for the yarn... and there it was... 15 skeins of Cashmerino Aran in exactly the color I wanted... so I bid... and watched... and waited... and WON... WHAT A STEAL! 15 skeins would have been $120 in the yarn store... with shipping and everything, I paid $72.50... can't wait til it arrives and I can start the Entrelac Shawl!

In the meantime, Sue's mom came to visit from West Virginia with a surprise for me... 2 LARGE bags of assorted yarn... she was cleaning out a cabinet in her church, and apparently it had been donated to them, and had been sitting around for a few years. It's mostly baby yarn-- If someone gives me yarn that was donated for good purposes, I like to do something charitable with it... so I promptly knitted a little pink preemie hat, and am working on a blue one. I'll probably do another Critter Knitters blankie with some of it as well.

Our second exam room is up & running... Sam is sick... hope to get some pictures up this week.

Bah!

I was SO close to finishing the hoodie sweater... SO CLOSE! BUT, I realized I had made an error attaching the 2nd sleeve to the shoulder, and was going to just try & fudge it... and then decided that the sweater was too close to being perfect to have a big area of bunching (even if it was going to be under the arm & in the back)... so I decided to rip out the seam, and accidentally began unravelling the sleeve, which is still attached to the sweater, and now I am beyond my own skill level with no clue how to fix it... SO... it sits in the basket until I can get to the yarn store, which will hopefully be Thursday morning. The next picture I post of this one *should* be a "finished object" photo!

In the meantime, though, I am progressing on the 2nd sock... I'm ready to start the heel flap:

And while I'm at the yarn store on Thursday, I think I'm going to splurge & pick up Cashmerino Super Chunky for Amy's baby gift :)

Have I mentioned lately that I love knitting?

Progressing slowly... I got a few inches (maybe 4) done on the cuff of the 2nd sock. I've decided that they are going to be a gift, although I won't say for who (whom?) yet, just in case she reads the blog. I can't imagine myself owning socks I have to hand wash.

I am working on the second sleeve on the hoodie sweater... I sewed the sleeve on to the sweater, and now have to work the side seam. Turns out I did some fudging on the other sleeve, and then matched this one to it, so although I'm seaming much better, I have to purposely screw up... glad Sam will be quite the galloping horse by the time he's ready to wear it!

We only made it to one yarn store in Toronto-- Lettuce Knit-- It was a very cute store, and I was sad that the selection was so small, and I couldn't find anything I wanted to buy (hard to believe in a yarn store)...

So the plan is to get to Glenmarle Woolworks or maybe Knit Kit later this week to buy yarn to make a baby blanket for Amy's not-yet-born baby... the pattern calls for Baby Cashmerino, but I want to do something with a larger gauge so the blanket comes out bigger... I am considering Cashmerino Super Chunky (I think that's what it's called), or I may just use Encore... we will see.

Pictures tomorrow...

Have I mentioned that I don't like finishing? I don't like finishing anything, really (except dessert, which never seems to be a problem)... but especially don't like finishing work in knitting. However, I like cleaning even less, and as those were the choices this afternoon...

I worked an entire seam of Sam's hoodie sweater-- under the sleeve, and down the side. I didn't realize how much I usually fudge these things until I was trying to make sure all the little stripes matched up... yikes! It's not perfect, but it will do. Sue says something about a galloping horse-- I forget the exact quote-- Sue, if you read this, feel free to comment :)

And...

I finished a little Critter Knitters blankie!

Now I have to clean... BOOBfriend Marcia & her daughters are coming tonight, and it would be nice if I didn't have to push baby paraphenalia out of the way to make room for them to sleep!

More knitting for critters...

|

Friday, April 02, 2004

Just taking a little break from socks, and started a blankie for Critter Knitters...

I'll start the next sock before we go to Toronto next week, so that I'll be working on the cuff for the airport/plane.

I really should finish that hoodie sweater, huh?

Hey! Check it out! I've added the capability to comment... so please comment freely!

One sock down, and one to go...

I'm actually surprised I got this done... I've been working a lot the past 2 weeks... which (eek!) I really like!
