Sock progress continues... I completed the heel, and am currently working on the gusset stitches.

BUT... I kept thinking about that Baby Cashmerino hoodie sweater pattern that I saw when yarn shopping Thursday... so this morning, I ran out & bought the book and yarn to make one for Sam... it will fit him next winter. I started it today at Stitch & Chat... here's my progress so far.

The picture doesn't quite show the colors-- it's a dark blue/gray/purpley color and a light olivey green-- and this yarn is SO incredibly soft... I can't even describe it. It's awesome! In my head, I'm already planning the next 3 or 4 projects using this yarn. YUM!

I never would have guessed that I'd be starting another sock... but I did, and here it is...

The pattern is Watercolor Paintbox Socks, and I'm using Koigu sock yarn... my feet are going to be very spoiled.

I think this is just a temporary project though. I was yarn shopping yesterday, and fell in love with one of the patterns in the Baby Cashmerino book... it's a little striped hooded sweater... and I think I might have to make one for Sam for next fall/winter... and one as a special baby gift. I also really liked the Entrelac shawl pattern from that book... but I'd probably do that in sport weight yarn, just to make it a little larger so it could be used as a baby blanket- I think the original pattern makes it about 24"x 24" which is a little on the small side.

Oops- Sam woke up... gotta go...

Wooooo Hooooo! I finished sock #2... the tension on the toe of the second sock might be a little tight, as I was so anxious to see if Meredith would choose Ian or Matthew... but regardless, now I have two pairs of hand-knit socks to wear... I love them both, AND in addition to everything else I want to make, I'm looking forward to starting ANOTHER pair!

Gotta love blurry photos of peoples' feet, huh?

Donna at the Knit Kit confirmed that I will have enough yardage to do the beaded scarf... so I have to order that pattern... gotta decide what to start next... hmmmm...

Has it been almost a week since I posted last? Time flies! Anyway, just plugging away at the 2nd sock... I finished the gusset & am working on the foot. Hopefully, I will have a finished object picture soon, and a new & exciting project to report on!

I've been working on the 2nd sock while I figure out what I want to start next. I've finished the cuff, and am starting the heel flap.

Maybe I'll actually finish this sock before starting something new... Nah... doubtful. I just haven't decided which of the zillion things I want to make should be started next... and I come up with more and more potential projects daily.

I finally received my Boob secret pal gift today-- yay! It was from Malinda & came all the way from Australia! She sent an incredibly gorgeous skein of 2-ply cashmere yarn, handmade knitting needles, and an Australian knitting magazine!

I'm not sure what to make with that yarn... it is SO pretty! I'm thinking about the Heartstrings Beaded Scarf on the Elann.com website... I just have to figure out if the pattern is appropriate for the yarn etc... but I'm working on it.

I also want to make a couple of really special baby things for friends who shall remain nameless at this point...

The headband is finished! I should probably press it a little bit... I'll do that next time I have the iron out... which could be a while. Anyway, here's me in the headband (SO not flattering, but very warm on the ears) with the ever-cute Sam... and here's the headband in all its two-color glory.

What should I work on next? Decisions, decisions...

Sunday, February 15, 2004

Yay! I finished all of the knitting on the headband... now I just have to sew the two sides of the lining together, and I will be able to wear it! Hopefully, I'll be able to get that done tomorrow. I could have used the headband this morning-- we walked to Stop & Shop... brrrr! I definitely need some more practice to keep my tension even while working with two colors... this project is a bit lumpy, to say the least... but there is enough yarn in the kit to do a second headband... I'll probably reverse the main & contrast colors, just for variety... and I have the hat kit... so many projects, so little time!

Gotta love knitting humor...

A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting! Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled, "PULL OVER!"
"NO!" the blonde yelled back, "IT'S A SCARF!"

Headband pics tomorrow, I hope!

Work on the headband continues... but more exciting, my secret pal (hi Joan!) opened her gift today, so I can post a picture:

A multi-directional diagonal scarf! Yay!

Oh my God... I am totally going to be addicted to two-color knitting. My kit arrived from Bea Ellis yesterday-- I decided to try the headband first. I did the 11 rows of stockinette stitch in the cotton-- this will fold under to make a non-itchy lining for the headband. Then, after another 2 rows in the wool, I started the color chart-- wow wow wow! In retrospect, this probably wasn't the easiest first color project, as the pattern repeats are 40 stitches wide... but I LOVE IT! LOVE it! I like working with a color in each hand... I like following the pattern... and I LOVE the way it is coming out. It was hard to stop! I will still maintain a fairly mindless project, because this one requires me to concentrate... but it is SO cool!

I am wearing my multicolored knitted socks today- I love them too, and that in itself is motivation to finish the other socks. Knitting rules!

I made it to Stitch & Chat and got the next sock started. Jonathan and Sam are feeling much much better today (although Jonathan is not quite 100% yet), and I have about 4" done on the ankle... it's not worth a new picture... you can only look at so many photographs of a sock being knit. I will work on it a bit more before bed.

I ordered kits from Bea Ellis Knitwear to do a 2-color hat & a 2-color headband. They should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.... woo hoo! I can't wait. Hopefully, I will be far enough along on the sock by then to guarantee that it will get finished at some point.

Sam & Jonathan were both sick today... Sam was pooping constantly, and was cranky & wouldn't let me put him down... and Jonathan was miserable & spent the day in bed. FINALLY around 9:45, Sam fell asleep... Jonathan followed shortly after... and I had some time to myself! So the dishes stayed dirty & the house stayed a mess... and I relaxed and finished a sock! Yay!

The colors don't photograph very well, but I'm happy with the result... and my right foot is happy too. The other foot is sad & hopes everyone feels better tomorrow so I can go to Stitch & Chat and start its sock.

Is this fun, or what?

You are Mohair
You are Mohair.
You are a warm and fuzzy type who works well with
others, doing your share without being too
weighty. You can be stubborn and absolutely
refuse to change your position once it is set,
but that's okay since you are good at covering
up your mistakes.

What kind of yarn are you?

I've finished the foot, and am working on the toe... I must say that this sock looks much cooler on my foot than flat...

Jonathan was sick today, and Sam was cranky from teething... so I didn't get much time to do anything. After Sam fell asleep around 9:00, though, I went to Sue's... ah... it felt great to have an hour & a half to myself to chat and knit... Sue started some felted mittens, which I think will be very cool, and I made good sock progress... I'm hoping to finish this sock tomorrow & start sock #2 before the Stitch & Chat on Sunday. Yay! Can't wait for Stitch & Chat!

The up-side of being sick is that a lot of knitting got done. The down-side is that I went to bed at 9:00, and am now wide awake at 1:00 in the morning. The up-side is that I now have energy to post a photo (LOVE the choice of background for contrast with the sock... NOT).

Sam & I were home sick today-- both of us have cold-cough-fever combos. Anyway, he napped more than usual, and I got some knitting done... turned the heel & started the gusset stitches on my sock. No energy to run downstairs & back up to take and post a photo... hopefully tomorrow!

Nothing much to report-- working on the sock... no new picture-- it looks kind of like yesterday's picture, only longer :)
