With only a week left in February (eek!) I think it's about time to prove that I've made some progress on my project for the February Fix-A-Thon!
If you recall... I bought some superwash merino wool at Stitches East, to make a sweater for Sam. I started a basic moss stitch sweater, and unfortunately ran out of yarn right at the end of the project... so the sweater ended up looking like this (other freakishly small sleeve not pictured).
This was destined for the cabinet of unfinished projects... until I read about the fix-a-thon and decided this would be a perfect opportunity to rise above my usual "if it doesn't work the first time, stick it in a drawer and ignore it" philosophy, and try to re-use the yarn that I really really like.
So I've started this: a basic stockinette stitch sweater, in what is supposed to be a smaller size (I definitely cast on fewer stitches, but the picture is making me nervous that I made this too long!).
I am already freaking about running out of yarn again. I don't know that I have a 3rd-time's-the-charm bone in my body... I hear short sleeved wool sweaters will be all the rage this fall.
We ordered a postage scale at work. I am thinking this will come in really handy in helping me avoid this problem in the future.

Okay friends... someone needs to have a baby girl!
Yes, I have knitting ADD. Yes, I am in the middle of multiple other things. Yes, I stopped all of those for no apparent reason, and knitted this, from Adorable Knits for Tots:
Bring on the Strattera-- I'm going back to the Broadripple socks... and my February Fix-It project... or maybe I'll finally finish Bobbi Bear (poor pathetic one-armed thing)... and I do want to finish my fir cone lace sweater before spring...
My mom brought a Patternworks catalog over yesterday... evil woman... doesn't she know I'm on a yarn diet until April 1st? I'm holding strong, but I did peek... and picked out my first post-yarn-diet project, I think. I want to make the Grace cardigan from the Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora book... for myself.
So many knits, so little time :)

Today is Sam's half-birthday. He's 18 months old! Half birthdays are a "thing" in my family (although there is other stuff going on, so everyone else forgot) Jonathan and I took the day off to spend with Sam-- we went to the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia. Sam really liked it-- although he has a cold (and now so do the zillion other kids that touched all the things he touched at the museum!)
I do knit... Monday or Tuesday night, I accidentally left the Broadripple sock-in-progress in the car, so rather than walking out the 20 feet to get it, I started something new-- a hat, in leftover Microspun (look familiar, Sue?)... this will be for Sam's daycare buddy (the teachers report Sam kisses her often... are they more than buddies?) Brandy, who is turning 1 this week.
I have a bad cold-- I think sharing straws and spoons with a sniffly (but very cute) baby has something to do with it. My head feels like it weighs about 40 pounds, and medicine that is supposed to work for 12 hours is working for about 20 minutes. Blech.
A cute RAOK from Wendy of CatKnits cheered me up, though-- an adorable little sheep, converation hearts, and card... Thank you so much Wendy, what a nice surprise!

Wanna hear something ridiculous about how much I love knitting? I am actually SAD for all of the time in my life that passed before I was addicted to knitting.

Image hosting is working... and in the meantime, I finished one sock.
One happy foot!
Jonathan washed his socks. The Regia Silk is supposed to be machine washable. Is it fate that they seem to be just the perfect size for me now? Maybe they just need to be re-stretched to fit his foot... but if not, I have an awfully nice new pair of socks :)

My image hosting site isn't letting me upload, so no pictures today.
I've been working on the Broadripple sock. I'm almost ready to start the toe on sock #1. I like the pattern a lot and the yarn a lot, and find that I am looking forward to knitting this all the time.
I also started my February Fix-It project. I ripped out the blue sweater with the freakishly tiny sleeves. Sam helped me wash the yarn, and we hung it up to dry. Sam was pretty funny after that-- he went around the house picking up all the little yarn ends (don't know about your houses, but mine has lots of these) and then carrying them over and putting them in the sink. I'm glad he enjoys fiber crafts :)
I'm not sure what that yarn will become. The original sweater got ripped because I ran out of yarn... I loved it for Sam, but think I will need to make something smaller to give away to someone with a smaller child. Ah... item #1 on the shopping list for Stitches East... or maybe not, considering the yarn smelled funny and had dog hairs in it.

Well, I do still exist, and I have been knitting. A lot.
I finished the socks for Jonathan. He says they're "like hugs for his feet" (Joel-- this is very sweet-- do not make fun!) and is wearing them for the second day straight. I feels very domestic and wifely to see my husband wearing socks that I knitted by hand.
Two empty sock needles? Not for long... I immediately started another pair of socks-- these will probably be for me. It's the Broadripple sock pattern, and I'm using yarn I bought at Stitches East. I took the picture yesterday-- in my Superbowl knitting frenzy, I've completed the heel flap and turned the heel, and am ready to pick up the gusset stitches. I like this one.
And lest you think I don't get any R&R... inspired by Sharlene, we took Sam to see the ocean today. Of course in this part of the country, it was not quite warm enough to sit and knit while he built sand castles, but it was a fun and relaxing day nonetheless.
So that's what I've been up to.
