People are vegetarian/vegan for different reasons. Some do it to lose weight... some for the health benefits... some out of love for the animals... or for the earth.

I have to say, I never really cared too much about the animals (although I still think about the 50 extra chickens running around someplace because we decided to have a vegan wedding.)

I don't eat meat because I felt so much better when I stopped... and I don't eat dairy because I'm fairly convinced that it's just not appropriate food for humans.

Lately, though, I'm finding myself sympathetic (empathetic?) with the life of a dairy cow. I mean how sucky is that... get pumped full of hormones beyond natural levels, that probably make you cranky as well as get your udder(s?) all engorged, then wait around until someone is ready to shepherd you into a small dark spot and hook you up to a milker... it probably hurts if they don't latch it on quite right... and then wait & wait while the milking happens... end up with sore teats & milk all over the place... and then get released for a few hours to graze or nap, until the whole thing is ready to begin again.

What a crappy lifestyle.

Hey, wait a minute... :o

And on that note...

Happy Chanukah!
